Founded in Spain in 2015 and with just 2 watches launched before the Velos debuted in 2020, Ophion are a watchmaker that is showing that luxury and accessibility can indeed go hand in hand. A masterful blend of contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship, embodying the ethos of independent watchmaking, the Ophion OPH 786 Velos (“Velos” meaning arrow in Greek) is an impressive tribute to the fact that luxury can be accessible. Made of stainless steel and boasting a 38.5mm teardrop case made by Voutilainen-Cattin S.A. in Germany, the Velos is a wonderful exhibition of independent watchmaking. Boasting a stunning salmon dial with silver accents and blued steel applied Breguet numerals and arrowhead motif hands, which glide gracefully over the Velos’ meticulously textured salmon guilloché dial, this timepiece’s display is as beautiful as its steel case. Powered by a custom manual-wind Soprod movement finished with traditional techniques such as hand-polished bevels, perlage, and Grenaille finish; all of which is visible through a sapphire case back, the Velos is truly as beautiful from the back as it is the front.
