Introduction
Arguably one of the most iconic watchmakers in the industry, Panerai are beloved by their army of passionate collectors, or ‘Paneristi’ as they are known for their larger-than-life timepieces, signature details and rich history as a military-worn dive watch manufacturer. Only coming into the public domain in the 1993, Panerai’s early timepieces are naturally cult classics due to their unyielding character and rich heritage. Offered here we have the stainless steel PAM00220, featuring a black dial with a date function at 3 o’clock and a running seconds subdial at 9 o’clock – a combination that has become emblematic of Panerai’s dial layouts. A large watch as Panerai are typically known for, the PAM00220 comes in the brand’s famed 44mm diameter cushion-shaped case, but the PAM00220 also comes on a stainless steel bracelet which allows it to remain entirely robust and on-task all while wearing with a more luxurious aesthetic than most other Panerai models from the same generation are known for with their typical rubber straps.

Condition
Watch is in overall very good condition. The steel case shows scratches and small nicks, while the case back displays deeper scratches across the surface. The dial remains excellent. The crystal has scratches and chips visible. It is fitted with a steel bracelet showing surface scratches and light play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 13 links, 4 of which are removable, and fits approximately a 7½” wrist. Additionally, there is 1 link included. Comes with box and a copy of the customer purchase records.
Our Perspective
On-task and robust yet still more casual and wearable than Panerai were known for at the time, models like the PAM220 are what caused Panerai to become so popular in the 2000s and create the cult following that they still enjoy to this day.
