Introduction
Launched in 2017, the Panerai Submersible 1950 PAM00692 hails from a long list of technically astute Panerai models that extends upon the Italian brand’s already-impressive list of proprietary materials. Made of BMG-TECH, the PAM00069’s surprisingly light and wearable 47mm case is indeed a bulk metallic glass alloy comprised of a host of metals. Both harder and lighter than steel, this proprietary alloy is produced through a high-pressure injection process at a high temperature which is then followed by a cooling process lasting for only a few seconds resulting in a very high tensile strength, extreme resistance to corrosion, external shocks, magnetic fields and the preservation of its appearance over time. While looking just like steel, BMG-TECH’s host of features makes it a spectacular watchmaking material, particularly when combined with Panerai’s rather large case designs. Interestingly, the PAM00692’s 47mm diameter is surprisingly wearable due to its lightness, and comparative thinness, at 14.9mm, thanks to its 6mm thick automatic cal. P.9010 movement. Featuring a bright blue dial that can transform from dark navy to electric blue depending on the light, the PAM00692 boasts a sunken subdial 9 o'clock, as is Panerai's signature, with semi-openworked hands and large luminous plots that allow for ample luminous material, which makes for a bright display under dark conditions and completes this model’s utility-rich design.
