Introduction
Launched in 2000 to commemorate the new millennium, the Patek Philippe ref. 5100P forms part of a four-piece limited run with an 18kt yellow gold variant of 1500 pieces, and three other metals, 18kt rose gold, white gold, and, of course, platinum, totalling another 1500 pieces. 750 of these 1500 pieces are in rose gold, 450 in white gold and 300 in platinum, making it the rarest. Powered by an entirely new, at the time, chronometer movement with an impressive 10-day power reserve, the manual-wind cal. 28-20 represented a first in watchmaking as this rectangular movement featured a power reserve indicator and subsidiary seconds dial along with being issued a unique rating certificate issued jointly by the C.O.S.C. and the Geneva Seal Institute. With its elaborately designed platinum case flaring out at its center and featuring a gentle curve that wraps around the wrist, the ref. 5100P is a splendidly comfortable timepiece, as it wears just as it is styled, with class and elegance. Inspired by the mid-century ref. 2554, the ref. 5100P is a heritage-inspired timepiece with a classic feel and aesthetic. Featuring a gently-textured silver dial with applied Arabic numerals and indices along with its dauphine hands, this timepiece is stunning, rare, and well worth some serious consideration by any seasoned Patek Philippe collector. As a way to ensure that this reference is never produced again, Patek even went as far to destroy the tools used to make the 3000 examples so as to guarantee that even if a later revival of this model was to be made it would still be different.

Our Perspective
Spectacularly rare as a commemorative timepiece and an exquisite example of Patek Philippe's craftsmanship, the ref. 5100P has everything a collector could look for in a classically-inspired Patek, with its manual-wind movement, elaborate case and beautiful black dial.
