How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

While Patek Philippe might be best-known for their round dress watches and high-end complications, over their history they have experimented with some unique shapes, and the square-shaped ref. 1432 that we have here is a testament to that very fact. Launched in the 1940s, this timepiece boasts a 27mm x 27mm square case made from 18kt yellow gold, with small pincher-shaped lugs that hold a leather strap for the ideal mid-century aesthetic. Boasting a bright silver dial set with applied hour markers and a running seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, the ref. 1432 comes powered by a manual-wind cal. 10-105 movement that includes some stunning finishing across its bridges and plates. Encapsulating the luxurious yet understated elegance of 1940s Patek Philippe watches, the ref. 1432 sets a standard of quality that was truly the pinnacle of luxury at the time, a standard that still remains relatively unchanged for Patek Philippe all of these decades later.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Featuring an elegant silver dial to match its wonderfully rich design, the ref. 1432 boasts applied hour markers and Roman numerals that resonate with its subtle running seconds subdial at 6 o'clock to further elevate its dress watch aesthetic.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Boasting a square-shaped 27mm x 27mm 18kt yellow gold case with short lugs and a slightly domed but thin bezel, the ref. 1432 wears with a sense of decorum and gracefulness, which was the style of mid-century watchmaking.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition

Watch is in overall very good condition. The yellow gold case shows light surface scratches along with a couple of small nicks, while the case back displays what appear to be a couple of minor surface repairs. A still-legible hallmark remains visible on the crown side of the case. The dial shows surface marks along with a couple of visible scratches, and the gold hands exhibit light oxidation. It is fitted with a black alligator strap and a yellow gold-coloured pin buckle, both remaining in very good condition. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

A timepiece rich with character and poise, the ref. 1432 is a classic piece of mid-century Patek Philippe watchmaking with a unique design that is a notable deviation from Patek's typical aesthetic, but still restrained and refined.
