Introduction

Famed for their incredible array of dress watches, Patek Philippe often wows their collectors with some of the most luxurious and best-constructed timepieces that money can buy. Due to their iconic sports watches and immaculate complicated offerings attracting the most attention these days, their understated vintage offerings have gone relatively under the radar. Perhaps a perfect example of this is the Patek Philippe Gondolo ref. 3733 that we have here. Hailing from the 1970s, the ref. 3733 features an incredibly unique 29mm x 33mm 18kt yellow gold case with a horizontal ribbed detailing that covers its complete construction across its case and integrated bracelet, creating a seamless transition from one to the other. Boasting a jet black onyx stone dial that serves to highlight its unique construction, the ref. 3733’s display and construction work is perfect harmony to showcase Patek Philippe’s incredible skill and craftsmanship. Powered by a manual-wind cal. 215, the ref. 3733 brings to life the genuine vintage look and feel that so many modern timepieces have tried to emulate thanks to the simple fact that it hails from the period from which today’s designers are drawing their inspiration as they chase the sense of horological delight that timepieces like the ref. 3733 radiate in abundance.

Condition

Watch is in excellent overall condition. There is some fine wear on the surface, with minor hairlines visible on the surfaces and a few minor marks on the caseback. Onyx hard stone dial is free from hairlines or cracks, and in near-mint condition. Integrated bracelet fits a 6 3/4" wrist, with little to no stretch.

Our Perspective

This is the kind of watch that you can't take off your wrist. Made in 1979, this 3733/1J with onyx dial is a specimen example of this signature reference from the 1970s. On a men's or ladies' wrist, this bracelet watch is a statement of beauty and bracelet architecture from the past. No expense was spared in its production and today this watch can be yours - seriously, you will not want to wear any other watch once you have this on your wrist.
