Introduction

Manufactured between 2010 and 2018, the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar ref. 5205G-010, offers a striking 40.2mm solid 18ct white gold case that is brilliantly polished and accented by beautiful lugs. An exquisite timepiece from a lineage of mechanical ingenuity, conceived in 1996, the Annual Calendar has been hallmark of Patek Philippe’s revered position as one of the world’s foremost watchmakers and this reference only compounds upon its rich history. Boasting a deep blue dégradé dial that is elegantly adorned with white gold baton hour markers and dauphine hands and three apertures for the day/date/month that nestle between 10-2 o'clock, with a lower half that reveals a fascinating moon phase function encased within a 24-hour indicator, the ref. 5205G packs a heavy horological punch in a watch that is otherwise unassuming. Boasting a domed sapphire crystal that safeguards it’s automatic cal. 324 S QA LU 24H movement, which is observable via an exhibition caseback, the ref. 5205G is only proud to highlight the mechanical mastery that is squeezed within its surprisingly wearable 40.2mm case. Nestled just beneath Patek's revered Grande Complications, the annual calendar function was the maiden time-keeping apparatus to intuitively represent the month, day, and date for 30/31 day months, requiring only a single yearly adjustment on March 1st, and as such is a wonderfully convenient timepiece that serves to reduce the need for constant interference.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Housing a beautiful blue dégradé dial, the ref. 5205G that we have here's display showcases a radiating detail whereby its brighter blue center fades out to a dark navy along its periphery.

Condition

Watch is in near-mint condition, with only minor signs of wear. There are some visible fine hairlines along the caseback edge.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

The ref. 5205 was first released in 2010 and brilliantly combines the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar with an instantaneous date display with three apertures. The elegant layout of the dial combines vintage nods as well as a futuristic display that looks amazing on the wrist and makes it easy to read the date. As one of the most desirable of all Annual Calendars, this example is beautifully preserved with its full set of accompaniments.
