Introduction
Introduced in 1998, the Aquanaut was Patek Philippe's attempt at appealing to a younger audience. No longer featuring an integrated bracelet like its big brother the Nautilus, it was first released on a rubber strap. 5060 was the very first model of the Aquanaut, and it came with a solid caseback (as opposed to the later display back variants). All in all, approximately 1000 pieces were created, split between steel and gold versions. There are rumors that it was produced at the behest of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, with the dial design inspired by a grenade.

Condition
The overall condition of the watch is brilliant. Hairline abrasions are visible throughout -namely on the bezel, case sides and caseback. The dial is phenomenal with rich yellow patina on the indexes. Rubber strap is sized for a 6.75 inch wrist. The buckle has faint needlelike scratches. Being that the deployant does not possess the early 'Nautilus' signature, we speculate that it could have been replaced at some point or it was delivered as such.
Our Perspective
The 5060A is the perfect midpoint watch for those of us that want an example in a vintage style, which is still contemporary. The warm patina on the dial of this piece really makes for an attractive look on the wrist.
