Introduction
Introduced in 1997, the Aquanaut marked a bold new direction for Patek Philippe. Conceived as a contemporary sports watch for a younger generation of collectors, it retained the exceptional finishing and mechanical sophistication expected of the manufacture while embracing a more casual aesthetic. Its rounded octagonal case, embossed dial and pioneering composite "Tropical" strap distinguished it from the more established Nautilus, creating a collection that has since become one of Patek Philippe's most sought-after modern icons.
Introduced in 2011, the reference 5164A elevated the Aquanaut by incorporating Patek Philippe's ingenious Travel Time complication. Designed with practicality in mind, the calibre 324 SC FUS allows the wearer to adjust local time forwards or backwards independently via discreet pushers on the left side of the case, while a skeletonised home-time hand can be hidden neatly beneath the primary hour hand when not required. Separate day/night indicators for both local and home time, together with a pointer date synchronised to local time, make the system remarkably intuitive to use. Combining genuine travel functionality with the understated versatility of the stainless steel Aquanaut, the 5164A has become one of the most desirable complicated sports watches in Patek Philippe's contemporary catalogue.

THE DIAL
The embossed black dial features the Aquanaut's signature grenade-style pattern, which continues seamlessly onto the Tropical strap to create a cohesive design. A skeletonised home-time hand, dual day/night apertures and a pointer date display are integrated with exceptional clarity, ensuring the additional complications never compromise legibility.
THE CONSTRUCTION
The 40.8mm stainless steel case retains the Aquanaut's distinctive rounded octagonal bezel and balanced proportions, while discreet pushers on the left flank provide quick adjustment of the Travel Time function. Water resistant to 120 metres and paired with the durable Tropical composite strap, the watch combines genuine sporting capability with the refinement expected of Patek Philippe.

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case shows light surface scratches and scuffs. The case back has light surface marks. The correctors are in near-mint condition. The dial and hands are like new. It is fitted with a black rubber strap and a steel deployant clasp showing light surface marks. The strap fits approximately a 7½” wrist.

While retaining the understated elegance and everyday wearability of the original Aquanaut, the addition of the Travel Time complication transforms it into one of the finest travel watches available today.
