Introduction

Typically known for its traditional dress watch aesthetic, the Calatrava is perhaps one of Patek Philippe’s most emblematic timepieces, with its precious metal case, leather straps, and elegant dials. Forming a part of that family tree is the ref. 3601, which we have here. Maintaining the Calatrava’s understated and elegant dial and precious metal case, the ref. 3601 also comes fitted with an 18k white gold bracelet and a classical demeanor. Renowned across the world as one of the finest watchmakers around, Patek Philippe’s timepieces have often been used as a mark of respect between noblemen, dignitaries, royalties, and so on. In keeping with that, this example is fitted with a rare and notable “Khanjar” dial. Made on special request for the Sultan of Oman, this watch would have been presented as a gift to a close friend, ally, foreign diplomat, or servant and today is sought after for just how rare they are.
