Introduction
Easily situated amongst the most iconic dress watches ever, the Patek Philippe Calatrava embodies the very essence of what a classically-styled timepiece should look like. Defining the entire market niche in 1932 when it debuted, the Calatrava has become the foundation of Patek Philippe’s elegant offerings, with the collection growing to include a multitude of references of various designs across a variety of dials, materials, complications and more. Offered here we have the Calatrava ref. 3411 which was launched in 1959 and produced for about a decade during some of the Calatrava collection's most formative years within the modern watchmaking era as the Calatrava earned its reputation as Patek Philippe’s premier dress watch. Boasting Patek's esteemed design language, the ref. 3411 features a 34.5mm 18kt white gold case with plenty of polished surfaces, a concave bezel, sharp angular lugs and a gorgeous silver dial that houses thin sword-shaped hands and applied sword-shaped indices for a minimalist aesthetic. An exercise in minimalism, as per the Calatrava’s Bauhaus-inspired design language, the Calatrava’s clean aesthetic has been the bedrock of its offering for decades, on which the ref. 3411 builds upon.

THE DIAL
Decidedly Bauhaus in its execution, the ref. 3411 features a minimalist dial design with applied sword-shaped hour markers and thin sword-shaped hands set upon a bright silver dial with nothing else but Patek's name at 12 o'clock.

THE CONSTRUCTION
An evolution of the Calatrava's design, the ref. 3411 features an entirely polished 18kt white gold construction that measures in at a svelte 34.5mm in diameter and comes in at only 10.5mm thick, with a concave bezel and thin angular lugs that allow a sleek wearing experience.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The white gold case is well defined with some scratches and light marks as expected of a watch of this vintage. A hallmark remains clearly legible on the crown side. The dial is excellent, with just a couple of minor surface marks, and the hands are very clean. The watch is fitted with a black alligator strap and a white gold Patek Philippe buckle, both in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Unapologetically traditional in its design, aesthetic, and execution, the ref. 3411 stands as one of the Calatrava's most classical offerings from the 1960s right through to 1970 or so, making it a jewel in the vintage world of Patek Philippe.
