Introduction
Perhaps the most iconic dress watch collection ever, the Patek Philippe Calatrava embodies the very essence of what a classically-styled timepiece should look like. Creating the entire dress watch niche in 1932 when it was released, the Calatrava has become a mainstay within Patek Philippe’s offerings, with the ref. 5022, launched in 1997 and produced until only 2003, standing as one of the most obscure Calatrava references from over the decades of the collection’s production. Launched as the pure embodiment of the elegance that earned Patek the name in watchmaking that they still deservingly enjoy to this day, the ref. 5022 measures 33mm in diameter and boasts an 18kt white gold case that features a thin stepped domed bezel with thin elegant lugs that make it a wonderfully wearable watch. With a rather unique grey guilloche engraved dial that contrasts its understated construction, the ref. 5502 is a masterclass in watchmaking craftsmanship that has resulted in a watch of the ages, with its eventual discontinuation in the early 2000s providing Patek with the opportunity to launch new Calatrava variants inspired by its understated design and elegant sophistication.

THE CONSTRUCTION
An elegant and understated timepiece that is imbued with mid-century refinement, the ref. 5022's domed stepped bezel and thin lugs combine to create a dressy timepiece that is simply beautiful.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The 18k WG case shows some light scratches and scuffs, with well-defined hallmarks. The case back retains its brushed finish and crisp stamps, with some more noticeable marks along the bottom edge. The dial and hands are near mint. The watch is fitted with a black Patek Philippe alligator strap and a 18k WG Patek Philippe buckle, both in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
An elegant dress watch that is as understated as it is luxurious, the ref. 5022G is a wonderfully modern take on the Calatrava's timeless design.
