Introduction
Easily situated amongst the most iconic dress watches ever, the Patek Philippe Calatrava embodies the very essence of what a classically-styled timepiece should look like. Defining the entire market niche in 1932 when it debuted, the Calatrava has become the foundation of Patek Philippe’s elegant dress watch offerings. Available here, we have an 18kt white gold Calatrava ref. 5119G. Launched in 2006 and in production until its discontinuation in 2021, the ref. 5119G maintained plenty of the Calatrava’s design signatures such as its Clous de Paris engraved hobnail texture bezel and stunningly understated white dial which boasts black painted Roman numerals. Sporting an exceptionally clean and elegant look and feel, the ref. 5119G’s perfectly round 36mm 18kt white gold case wears exactly like a traditional dress watch, with its straight curled lugs flowing down the wrist for a thin wearing experience, as provided by the ref. 5119G’s manual-wind movement, the cal. 215 PS. Contrasting its simple white dial, the various textures across the ref. 5119G’s bezel, case, and dial combine to create a truly beautiful watch that still manages to play to the Calatrava’s Bauhaus-derived aesthetic in what is clearly a direct reference to its puritan roots and historical lineage, all while demonstrating Patek Philippe's ability to create some of horology's most stunning timepieces.

THE DIAL
Boasting a white dial with black painted Roman numerals, black gold hands and a black chapter ring for its subdial, the ref. 5119G's display is immediately reminiscent of the traditionalist mid-century dress watches that it is inspired by, as it reveals just how much thought went into its beautifully understated design.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Designed and executed in a manner befitting of a traditional dress watch, the ref. 5119G flew in the face of the XL trend that had dominated the 2000s when it was launched, embracing Patek's classical design language and the beauty of understated form.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case shows wear along the surfaces, with scratches primarily visible on the caseback and mid-case. Hobnail bezel is well defined, with minimal wear. The dial near-mint with no signs of wear or aging. Watch comes on a well worn strap and a modified PP deployant buckle that was purchased by the original owner when new. The deployant buckle outer closure has been removed and the original tang buckle has been retrofitted for a cleaner look. The removed part is not included in the sale. Additionally, the box is missing the inner pillow.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
A beautifully styled and carefully crafted variant of the iconic Calatrava, the ref. 5119G shows what Patek can do when they fuse their legendary craftsmanship with horological heritage and a careful eye on the small details that, when added together, have a huge impact on how a watch looks and feels.
