Introduction
First released in 1932 and named after the cross that the Calatrava Knights paraded around Spain and Portugal during the 12th and 13th centuries, the Patek Philippe Calatrava was released as a simple timepiece with broad appeal that would help secure Patek Philippe's finances following Jean and Charles Henri Stern's investment in the brand in the same year. Designed with a strict Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic in mind, the Calatrava used, and continues to use, simplicity as its means of establishing intrigue around the craftsmanship required to construct such a stunning timepiece. Without a complicated movement or a busy design, collectors gravitate towards the Calatrava's clean aesthetic and practicality. The ref. 5296G that we have here plays on this elegant design with a stunning silver sector dial that elevates its aesthetic into the realm of true mid-century refinement. Constructed of 18kt white gold and measuring 38mm in diameter, the ref. 5296G is a modern monochromatic timepiece that speaks to the Calatrava’s original thesis as a fine dress watch, but with a modern nostalgic twist.

THE DIAL
Inspired by mid-century aesthetics, but blended with modern prowess, the ref. 5296G features a silver dial with blue inscriptions and matching blued hands for a subtle pop of color, linking its sector design with modern design.

THE CONSTRUCTION
While inspired by Calatravas of old, the 18kt white gold ref. 5296G swaps the collection's typically svelte sizing for a 38mm case that wears on the wrist with a modern poise.
