Introduction
Released in 2015, the Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time model ref. 5524G that we have was Patek Philippe’s first foray into the world of pilot’s watches. While inspired by two pilot watch prototypes from Patek that they produced in the 1930s, the new Calatrava Pilot Travel Time collection still broke from Patek Philippe convention and stepped into a place that Patek Philippe had never went, at least commercially speaking. As a result, the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time had a hard time finding its feet in the market, which it eventually did manage to do as its unique construction and array of useful complications won over Patek’s clients. Made of 18kt white gold its 42mm case features a winding crown at 3 o’clock and its two pushers at 8 and 10 o’clock, making for a unique aesthetic. Featuring a blue varnished dial with large gothic applied numerals to match its cathedral hands, the ref. 5524G is remarkably legible thanks to its pilot watch design DNA. Featuring a pointer-date subdial at 6 o'clock with a white skeleton hour hand that synchronizes with the home-time AM/PM aperture on its right, which is mirrored by the local time's AM/PM aperture on the left, the ref. 5524G's dial is clean, symmetrical, and entirely useful for the well-traveled collector. Powered by the cal. 324 S C FUS movement, the ref. 5524G displays the finest of Patek's craftsmanship beneath its exhibition caseback, in keeping with Patek's legendary standards of craftsmanship, artistry, and detail. All tenets that they continue to live by as one of the world’s premier watchmakers.

THE DIAL
Fitted with a blue varnished dial that fades from light blue to near-black at the flick of the wrist, the ref. 5524G's dial matches the dynamism encased within its 18k white gold construction.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Unique amongst Patek's usually conservative Calatrava collection, the Travel Time's tri-crown construction has become emblematic of its design and instrumental to its unique wrist presence and appeal.

Our Perspective
Controversial when it was first released, the Travel Time collection has grown to be one of Patek's best-sellers. Its unique design became a fundamental tenet of its success, with collectors seeking out its unusual wrist profile and everyday utility.
