Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 5524R

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Released in 2018 to expand upon Patek Philippe's first Calatrava Pilot Travel Time model, the ref. 5524R that we have here is technically identical to its white gold sibling – with the introduction of a new dial variant, case material, and strap color to the collection to create a monochromatic aesthetic. Featuring a warm brown sunburst dial with large gothic applied numerals to match its cathedral hands, the ref. 5524R is remarkably legible thanks to its pilot watch design DNA. Featuring a pointer-date subdial at 6 o'clock with a white skeleton hour hand that synchronizes with the home-time AM/PM aperture on its right, which is mirrored by the local time's AM/PM aperture on the left, the ref. 5524R's dial is clean, symmetrical, and entirely useful for the well-traveled collector. With its 18k rose gold case sporting two mushroom-style screwed pushers at 8 and 10 o'clock (which adjust the second time zone forward or back), the ref. 5524R's 42mm construction is balanced on the wrist as its winding crown at 3 o'clock intersects the line between the two pushers. Powered by the cal. 324 S C FUS movement, the ref. 5524R displays the finest of Patek's craftsmanship beneath its exhibition caseback, in keeping with Patek's legendary standards of craftsmanship, artistry, and detail.

THE DIAL

Fitted with a dynamic sunburst brown dial that fades from light brown to black around its edges, the ref. 5524R's dial matches the dynamism encased within its warm 18k rose gold construction that transforms in the light.

THE CONSTRUCTION

Unique amongst Patek's usually conservative Calatrava collection, the Travel Time's tri-crown construction has become emblematic of its design and instrumental to its unique wrist presence and appeal.

Our Perspective

Controversial when it was first released, the Travel Time collection has grown to be one of Patek's best-sellers. Its unique design became a fundamental tenet of its success, with collectors seeking out its unusual wrist profile and everyday utility.
