Introduction
Patek Philippe surprised collectors in 2015 with the introduction of the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time, a watch that departed dramatically from the restrained dress watches traditionally associated with the Calatrava name. Combining oversized Arabic numerals, prominent pushers and a practical dual-time display, it brought an unexpectedly sporting character to one of watchmaking's most classical collections.
Released in 2019 to commemorate Patek Philippe's Watch Art Grand Exhibition in Singapore, the ref. 7234A offered an especially desirable interpretation of the concept. Its stainless steel case was reduced to 37.5mm, giving the watch notably balanced proportions, while a blue-grey sunburst dial and matching Cordura-style strap completed the distinctive appearance. Limited to 400 pieces, the Singapore Edition is further distinguished by the inscription "Patek Philippe Singapore 2019" on its sapphire crystal case back. Powered by the automatic calibre 324 S C FUS, it combines local and home-time indications with day/night displays and a date tied to local time.

THE DIAL
Finished in blue-grey with a sunburst treatment, the dial combines large applied Arabic numerals with luminous-filled hands for excellent legibility. A skeletonised hand displays home time alongside the primary local-time hand, while separate day/night indicators and the date subdial at six o'clock provide an intuitive presentation of the Travel Time complication.
THE CONSTRUCTION
At 37.5mm, the stainless steel case gives the ref. 7234A more compact proportions than the original 42mm Pilot Travel Time. Twin pushers at eight and ten o'clock independently adjust local time backwards or forwards in one-hour increments, while the sapphire crystal case back bears the commemorative "Patek Philippe Singapore 2019" inscription unique to this edition.

Condition
Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The steel case shows light signs of careful wear across the case and case back. The display case back retains well-defined etched text to the sapphire crystal. The dial and hands are like new. It is fitted with a blue leather strap and a steel Patek Philippe pin buckle showing only a couple of tiny marks. Comes with the inner and outer boxes and cloth dustbag. Original guarantee certificate is not included.
Our Perspective
The ref. 7234A is one of the more unusual modern Patek Philippe limited editions, combining a stainless steel case, compact 37.5mm dimensions and one of the manufacture's most distinctive contemporary designs. Produced in just 400 examples for the 2019 Singapore exhibition, it also occupies an interesting position within the Pilot Travel Time story, offering proportions that make this ostensibly smaller model particularly compelling on the wrist.
