Introduction
Containing the cosmos within its case, the Patek Philippe Celestial Grand Complications ref. 5102 was launched in 2002 as one of Patek Philippe’s most important modern horological developments. Boasting the Northern Hemisphere’s celestial chart within its display, the ref. 5102’s rotating sapphire disk rotates counter clockwise, showing the progression of stars relative to the meridian passage of Sirius. This essentially allows the watch to display the portion of the Milky Way galaxy’s stars that would be overhead during any given night provided the correct conditions of total darkness and a clear sky were present. Launched in 2009 as the last variant to be produced, the ref. 5102RG that we have here features a two-tone construction with a large 43mm 18kt rose gold case that sports a platinum bezel, caseback, and a matching platinum deployant clasp for its leather strap. Finished with an extravagantly engraved mid-case to complement its bright blue three-layer display, this timepiece just about has everything a collector could want from a watch of this calibre and pedigree.

THE DIAL
Featuring a multi-layer dial that features a transparent disk with a star chart that rotates over a bright blue lower layer, which in turn covers a moonphase, the ref. 5102's display is a wonderfully unique depiction of the Milky Way galaxy as seen on a clear dark night.

THE CONSTRUCTION
While its dial might be a showstopper in and of itself, the ref. 5120RG also boasts an incredible 43mm case, with its two-tone 18kt rose gold and platinum construction complete with amazing engravings along its midcase.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The platinum bezel and edge of the display case back show light signs of careful wear, while the rose gold lugs display light surface marks. All platinum and rose gold hallmarks and stamps remain crisp. The Calatrava crowns are both well defined. The dial and hands remain like new. It is fitted with a black Patek alligator strap and platinum deployant clasp showing light surface marks.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
A grail to so many collectors and Patek Philippe aficionados, the Celestial Grand Complications ref. 5102 is one of the ultimate expressions of Patek Philippe's ability to take off-the-wall horological concepts and distil them into wonderfully executed and tremendously impressive pieces of watchmaking.
