Introduction
There are very few names in the world of watch collecting that get seasoned watch collectors as excited as Patek Philippe, and that's for a good reason. With one of the most influential histories in all of watchmaking, Patek Philippe is genuinely beyond their peers, and offered here we have one of their most historically significant chronograph models, the ref. 1579. Released in 1943, the ref. 1579 was one of Patek's largest chronograph models at 36mm in diameter and remained in Patek's catalog until it was discontinued in 1964. The ref. 1579 is iconic for its unusual briolette lug shape, incredibly open and legible dial, and thick flat bezel that surrounds the crystal. These downturned angular lugs are known as "spider" lugs and frame the ref. 1579's round dial nicely by breaking up the flow of the perfectly circular case. While the ref. 1579 was in production for 21 years; it is still an incredibly rare watch. Made predominately in yellow gold, only a few hundred examples are known to exist. Released in two series, the first series was produced from 1943 to 1949 and features Arabic and baton numerals and either baton or Feuille hands. The second series was produced from 1950 to 1964 and featured Arabic and square numerals and Feuille hands, as feature on our beautiful silver dialled example.

THE DIAL
Produced in 1952, this example falls within the early production range of the 2nd Series of the ref. 1579, as demonstrated by its square indices and Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o'clock.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Perhaps its most physically noticeable feature, the ref. 1579 boasts a wonderful set of angular "Spider" lugs that flare out from their narrow bases to then taper of once again as the lug reaches for the strap that holds the watch to its wearer's wrist.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case shows some scratches and small nicks, with a well-defined hallmark on the back of the lug. The winding crown and pushers show light wear. The dial is near mint, with only a couple of minor surface marks and very clean hands. Enameling is raised, and the signature on the dial is strong and well defined. Fitted with a brown crocodile strap with yellow gold-plated pin buckle. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloguing, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
With fewer than 500 examples produced over a period of 21 years across all metal types, the ref. 1579 is a tremendously rare watch with the visual aesthetics to ensure its status is known and appreciated.
