Introduction
Launched in 1968, Patek Philippe's Golden Ellipse collection marked a significant shift for Patek as they embraced the constantly changing world that was the 1960's. With the dawn quartz technology on its way, Patek sought a watch that was both unisex in its design and also immediately 'Patek' in its aesthetic. With that design brief, Patek debuted the Golden Ellipse to immediate success as a result of its novel and forward-thinking design and luxurious construction. Made from 18k gold and powered by a manual-wind movement, the Ellipse celebrated classical watchmaking's techniques while also retaining a forward-thinking design in the form of its thin elegant cases, understated dials and elegant unisex proportions. Following the success of the first Ellipse, the ref. 3548, Patek followed with several other variants that proved to be just as successful, leading to the collection remaining within Patek's catalog to this day. As such, one of those references was the Ellipse that we see here, the Ellipse ref. 3566. Featuring a 28mm-wide square case (35mm from lug to lug) made of 18kt white gold, the ref. 3566 wears on the wrist with an elegant stance that is slightly shorter than other Ellipse references, and thus easier to wear. In combination with its monochromatic silver dial that features black painted Roman numerals, and its manual-wind cal. 175 movement, this example is also offered in exceptional condition throughout, making it a delight on wrist.

THE DIAL
Featuring a silver dial with black painted Roman numerals and matching black hands and inscriptions, the ref. 3566's dial is perfectly monochromatic and the best possible fit for its 18t white gold case.

THE CONSTRUCTION
While its square 18kt white gold case is 28mm x 28mm, the ref. 3566's lug-to-lug measurement of 35mm means it fills the wrist with a poise that is much more substantial than its measurements suggest.

THE MOVEMENT
On account of its manual-wind cal. 175 movement being so thin, the ref. 3566 stands just 6mm tall, making it incredible elegant and refined on the wrist.
Please Note: The watch movement is ticking at time of cataloging, but we are unable to get a timing machine readout. An overall would be suggested for the new purchaser.
Condition
Watch is in very good overall condition. Case has been previously polished and the surfaces show minimal wear evident. Dial has been previously refinished, and shows light wear along the edges and surface. The black enameled hour hand is slightly chipped near the tip as shown. Watch comes with its original 18k PPCo signed buckle. Please Note: The watch movement is ticking at time of cataloging, but we are unable to get a timing machine readout. An overall would be suggested for the new purchaser.

Our Perspective
With its long history within Patek's catalog standing as a testament to just how well-received it has been over the decades, the Ellipse remains an icon amongst dress watches, thanks to its elegant shapes, and refined dials.
