Introduction
Introduced in 1968, the Golden Ellipse represented a bold departure from traditional watch design. Inspired by the mathematical harmony of the Golden Ratio, its softly elliptical case offered a refined alternative to the conventional round dress watch while showcasing Patek Philippe's mastery of elegant, ultra-thin watchmaking. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the Golden Ellipse became a canvas for some of the manufacture's most creative work, appearing in an extraordinary variety of precious metals, dial colours and handcrafted bracelets, many of which were produced in relatively small numbers.
Launched in 1973, the reference 4226 became one of the most successful ladies' models within the Ellipse family, remaining in production well into the 1980s. Offered in both yellow and white gold, it could be specified with a wide range of bracelet and dial combinations, reflecting the bespoke nature of Patek Philippe's production during the period. This particular example is especially significant, featuring a blued gold Sigma dial bearing the Eagle of Saladin, the national emblem of Iraq, together with a personalised Saddam Hussein signature, commissioned during the late 1970s or early 1980s. Such special-order watches were produced in extremely limited numbers for presentation to senior officials and distinguished recipients, making them among the most historically fascinating examples of vintage Patek Philippe.

THE DIAL
The blued gold Sigma dial is distinguished by the addition of the Eagle of Saladin and a personalised Saddam Hussein inscription, transforming an already elegant dress watch into an exceptionally rare government commission. Slender baton markers and understated hands preserve the purity of the Ellipse design while allowing the bespoke dial details to remain the focal point.
THE CONSTRUCTION
The 18K white gold case perfectly embodies the harmonious proportions that have defined the Golden Ellipse since its introduction. Complementing the case is a superb handmade integrated bracelet by Atelier Réunis, whose intricate construction and exceptional finishing demonstrate the extraordinary level of craftsmanship achieved by Patek Philippe's specialist suppliers during the 1970s.

Condition
Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The white gold case shows light surface scuffs consistent with careful wear. The case back retains legible hallmarks. The dial, featuring the presentation logo and script, is in near-mint condition, and the hands remain clean. It is fitted with a black Patek Philippe leather strap and a white gold Ellipse buckle, both in near-mint condition. Comes with the inner and outer boxes, the outer box featuring the Iraqi emblem, the Extract of the Archives, and the numbered hangtag.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

The combination of the Iraqi Eagle of Saladin, personalised Arabic signature and exquisite Atelier Réunis bracelet already places this reference 4226G among the most desirable examples of the Golden Ellipse. The survival of its original presentation box bearing the Iraqi national emblem, together with its numbered hang tag, further elevates its significance.
