Introduction
Launched in 1968, Patek Philippe's Golden Ellipse collection marked a significant shift for Patek as they embraced the constantly changing world that was the 1960's. With the dawn quartz technology on its way, Patek sought a watch that was both unisex in its design and also immediately 'Patek' in its aesthetic. With that design brief, Patek debuted the Golden Ellipse to immediate success as a result of its novel and forward-thinking design and luxurious construction. Made from 18k gold and powered by a manual-wind movement, the Ellipse celebrated classical watchmaking's techniques while also retaining a forward-thinking design in the form of its thin elegant cases, understated dials and elegant unisex proportions. Following the success of the first Ellipse, the ref. 3548, Patek followed with several other variants that proved to be just as successful, leading to the collection remaining within Patek's catalog to this day. As such, one of those references was the Ellipse that we see here, the Ellipse ref. 3666. Featuring a 28mm-wide square case (35mm from lug to lug) made of 18kt yellow gold, the ref. 3666 wears on the wrist with an elegant stance that is slightly shorter than other Ellipse references, and thus easier to wear. In combination with its monochromatic white dial that features black painted Roman numerals and the co-signature of its original retailer Beyer, and its manual-wind cal. 177 movement, this example is also offered in exceptional condition throughout, making it a delight on wrist.

THE DIAL
Featuring a white dial with black painted Roman numerals and matching black hands and inscriptions, including the co-signature of its original retailer, Beyer, the ref. 3666's dial is perfectly monochromatic and the best possible fit for its 18kt yellow gold case.

THE CONSTRUCTION
While its square 18kt yellow gold case is 28mm x 28mm, the ref. 3666's lug-to-lug measurement of 35mm means it fills the wrist with a poise that is much more substantial than its measurements suggest.

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case has some scratches and light nicks, but the case definition remains excellent. The case back has crisp hallmarks, and the watch retains its Patek Philippe logo winding crown in excellent condition. The dial has some light marks, especially around the edges, with a small line inside the inner track between four and five. The black hands are very clean. The watch is fitted with a black leather strap with a gold pin buckle.
Our Perspective
With its long history within Patek's catalog standing as a testament to just how well-received it has been over the decades, the Ellipse remains an icon amongst dress watches, thanks to its elegant shapes, and refined dials.
