Introduction
Launched in 2007 as a contemporary interpretation of an Art Deco-inspired timepiece from 1927, the Patek Philippe Gondolo ref. 5098 is a tonneau-shaped timepiece that features a tasteful level of classy exuberance. Featuring a curved platinum case with an elaborately finished rhodium dial with a hand-guilloched engraving, the ref. 5098P is a beautifully designed timepiece that is flooded with landmarks that celebrate its Art Deco inspiration such as its visible lug screws, thick polished bezel, general tonneau shape and blend of Breguet Arabic numerals and oval-shaped railroad-style minute track. A wonderfully elegant watch, its monochromatic color scheme blends its black dial inscriptions, black pear-shaped hands and a black leather strap with its contrasting silver dial and 18kt white gold case to wonderful effect. Powered by the manual-wind cal. 25-21 REC AIG 2 movement that was developed specifically for the rectangular void in the ref. 5098P's case, it is a truly exclusive timepiece inside and out.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case shows some surface wear, with small marks and scratches visible along the case side. The caseback retains its original brushed surface and crisp hallmarks. Guilloche dial near-mint with little to no signs of wear. Watch comes with its original boxes, papers and hang tags.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
The ref. 5098P was launched in 2007 and designed to look almost identical to a Patek Philippe wrist watch from 1917. The hand-engraved, engine-turned dial pays homage to an earlier period when this dial style was more commonly found. The dial of this watch is often described as being a masterpiece of the art of dial making. Only Patek Philippe could produce such a dial in the early 21st century, using the tools and know-how from the late 19th and early 20th century. Complete with box and papers, this example from 2008 is ready to wear and makes for an exceptional modern addition to one’s Patek Philippe collection
