Introduction

Released in 1976 as Patek Philippe's response to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, an avant-garde luxury stainless steel sports watch borne from AP's necessity to survive the Quartz Crisis, the Nautilus was Patek Philippe's attempt to go head to head with AP's increasingly popular sports watch. Designed by Gerald Genta, the same man that had designed the Royal Oak, the Nautilus was inspired by a porthole and thus features a rounded-over octagonal bezel and hinge-like protrusions on either side of its case. Featuring its signature horizontally embossed dial and iconic integrated bracelet, the Nautilus has become the most sought-after watch in the market today as collectors clamor over examples thanks to its iconic design, extreme exclusivity, and impeccable craftsmanship. In 1998, Patek Philippe released the 3710. This model was the first to feature a complication (Power Reserve Indicator) beyond the date function. Housed in the Jumbo case, the ref. 3710 was produced until 2006.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Boasting a black dial without the Nautilus' signature horizontal embossed pattern, the ref. 3710's display is immediately different to those on other Nautilus models, with its applied Roman numerals and 'comet' power reserve indicator capping off what is a unique Nautilus variant.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Featuring the Nautilus' iconic "Jumbo" case design, the ref. 3710 wears with the same poise as the original Nautilus model, with its 42mm diameter commanding an impressive presence on the wrist.

Condition

Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The steel case shows light signs of careful wear following a Patek Philippe service, with the case back retaining the service sticker showing light wear. The dial and hands remain near mint. It is fitted with a steel bracelet showing light signs of wear and negligible play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 22 links, 6 of which are removable, and fits approximately a 7¼” wrist. Watch was serviced in 2024 and comes complete with service roll and card box, Certificate of Origin, service papers, booklet, additional paperwork and document holder.

Our Perspective

This watch simply has it all. It is a Nautilus made in stainless steel, with a jumbo case, and a tremendously unique black dial complete with unusual applied Roman numerals and the beloved 'comet' power reserve indicactor complication that makes this piece's special nature obvious to anyone who knows what they are looking at.
