Introduction
Easily situated amongst the most iconic dress watches ever, the Patek Philippe Calatrava embodies the very essence of what a classically-styled timepiece should look like. Defining the entire market niche in 1932 when it debuted, the Calatrava has become the foundation of Patek Philippe’s elegant offerings, with the collection growing to include a multitude of references of various designs across a variety of dials, materials, complications and more. Offered here we have the Calatrava ref. 3410 which was launched in 1959 and produced until the early 1980s, which were some of the Calatrava collection's most formative years within the modern watchmaking era as the Calatrava earned its reputation as Patek Philippe’s premier dress watch. Boasting Patek's esteemed design language, the ref. 3410 features a 34mm 18kt yellow gold case with plenty of polished surfaces, a concave bezel, thin sharp lugs and a gorgeous cream dial that houses thin sword-shaped hands and applied stick indices and a minimalist running seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. An exercise in minimalism, as per the Calatrava’s Bauhaus-inspired design language, the Calatrava’s clean aesthetic has been the bedrock of its offering for decades, on which the ref. 3410 builds upon.

THE DIAL
Decidedly Bauhaus in its execution, the ref. 3410 features a minimalist dial design with applied stick hour markers and thin sword-shaped hands set upon a rich cream dial with a subtle running seconds subdial at 6 o'clock.

THE CONSTRUCTION
An evolution of the Calatrava's design, the ref. 3410 features an entirely polished 18kt yellow gold construction that measures in at a svelte 34mm in diameter and comes in at only 10mm thick, with a concave bezel and thin short lugs that allow a sleek wearing experience.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall very good condition. The yellow gold case shows light scratches and a few small nicks, commensurate with a watch of this vintage. The hallmarks on the case side remain partially legible, and the Patek Philippe crown is still well defined. The dial has been refinished at some point and shows surface wear and marks. The watch is fitted with a well-worn alligator strap and generic plated buckle.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Unapologetically traditional in its design, aesthetic, and execution, the ref. 3410 stands as one of the Calatrava's most classical offerings from the 1950s right through to the 1980s, making it a jewel in the vintage world of Patek Philippe.
