Introduced in 1994, the Patek Philippe ref. 5015 is one of the more unusual complicated dress watches of the manufacture's 1990s production. Its 36mm case combines a stepped beaded bezel and dramatically scrolled lugs with an officer-style hinged case back, beneath which a sapphire display reveals the movement. The dial is equally distinctive, abandoning conventional symmetry for a power-reserve indication at ten o'clock, subsidiary seconds at four and a combined pointer-date and moonphase display at seven. The result is unmistakably Patek Philippe, yet far less conservative than many of the manufacture's contemporary complicated watches.

This ref. 5015J-001 dates to 1994, the year the reference was introduced, and is executed in 18K yellow gold. Its white dial provides a crisp contrast to the warmth of the case, with radial Arabic numerals, railway minute track and dark spade-shaped hands reinforcing the watch's distinctly traditional character. Inside is the automatic calibre 240/152, based around Patek Philippe's celebrated ultra-thin micro-rotor architecture and responsible for the watch's unusual arrangement of indications. Fitted to a leather strap with an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe deployant clasp and accompanied by an Extract from the Archives, this is an appealing example of one of Patek Philippe's most characterful 1990s complications.

Watch is in overall excellent condition. The 18K yellow gold case shows surface scratches and small nicks, with some patina across the surface. The beaded bezel remains very well defined. The case back retains well-defined hallmarks, while the strap screws show some wear. The dial and hands are in near-mint condition. It is fitted with a brown leather strap and an 18K yellow gold deployant clasp in excellent condition. Please note that the fitted strap is not compatible with the deployant clasp.
