Introduction
Released in 1976 as Patek Philippe's response to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, an avant-garde luxury stainless steel sports watch borne from AP's necessity to survive the Quartz Crisis, the Nautilus was Patek Philippe's attempt to go head to head with AP's increasingly popular sports watch. Designed by Gerald Genta, the same man that had designed the Royal Oak, the Nautilus was inspired by a porthole and thus features a rounded-over octagonal bezel and hinge-like protrusions on either side of its case. Featuring its signature horizontally embossed dial and iconic integrated bracelet, the Nautilus has become the most sought-after watch in the market today as collectors clamor over examples thanks to its iconic design, extreme exclusivity, and impeccable craftsmanship.
Released in 2006, the Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5711 has grown from some rather humble beginnings as an oft-ignored stainless steel sports watch from a brand renowned for their complications to one of the most exclusive and sought-after timepieces in the world. Following a stratospheric climb to fame, the Nautilus ref. 5711 was seen as the poster child of Patek's reign over the horological world. Discontinued at the beginning of 2022, the ref. 5711 has solidified itself as a modern-day icon, and perhaps the last stainless steel time and date-only Nautilus variant that we will see for quite some time yet.

THE DIAL
Easily one of watchmaking's most recognisable dials, the Nautilus sports horizontal embossing, a deep blue color and applied hour markers and a distinctive hand-set.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Perhaps one of the most iconic designs within watchmaking, the Nautilus' integrated bracelet, porthole-inspired case, and octagonal bezel make for a fantastic-looking watch, as any Nautilus fan will attest to.

Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Watch retains sharp edges, with only minor surface wear. Bezel has scraches and marks, as seen in the images. They are concentrated primarily on the lower right side of the bezel. Non-cartouche dial is in near-mint condition showing no wear. Bracelet has some small marks as well, primarily visible on the polished surfaces. Band is tight and currently fit with 22 links. Two links have been removed but included with the watch.
Our Perspective
Inarguably one of the most prominent watches to come in the last several decades, the Nautilus is the epitome of what it means to be a true icon, and the ref. 5711 is the posterchild of its desirability.
