Introduction
Released in 1976 as Patek Philippe's response to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, an avant-garde luxury stainless steel sports watch borne from AP's necessity to survive the Quartz Crisis, the Nautilus was Patek Philippe's attempt to go head to head with AP's increasingly popular sports watch. Designed by Gerald Genta, the same man that had designed the Royal Oak, the Nautilus was inspired by a porthole and thus features a rounded-over octagonal bezel and hinge-like protrusions on either side of its case. Featuring its signature horizontally embossed dial and iconic integrated bracelet, the Nautilus has become the most sought-after watch in the market today as collectors clamor over examples thanks to its iconic design, extreme exclusivity, and impeccable craftsmanship.

THE DIAL
Featuring the Nautilus' signature horizontally embossed dial, the ref. 7118's embossing is, in fact, wavy, with its lines gently undulating across the dial.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Fitting right in the middle, the ref. 7118's 35.2mm diameter is extremely agreeable for the majority of wrist sizes, with the Nautilus' iconic porthole-inspired case and integrated bracelet ensuring its construction wear with genuine presence.

Condition
Watch is in near-mint condition, appears to have been sparingly worn. Some very light wear visible on the bracelet, but appears nearly new. Bracelet was resized but the extra links are included with the box.
Our Perspective
An interesting evolution of the Nautilus, the ref. 7118's use of different hands, markers and dial embossings result in an aesthetic that is slightly detached from the traditional Nautilus, while still remaining firmly rooted in the collection's design language to the point that it is still easily recognisable as Gerald Genta's original design.
