Introduction

Introduced in 1944, the Patek Philippe reference 1588 is one of the manufacture's most elegant shaped wristwatches of the post-war period. Produced for little more than a decade, it embodies the refined Art Deco aesthetic that characterised the era, with its elongated rectangular case, graceful curved profile and restrained proportions. Collectors often refer to the reference as the "Pagoda" owing to its distinctive arched silhouette, making it one of the most recognisable non-round vintage Patek Philippe references.

Powered by the manually wound calibre 9'''90 and accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming its history, the reference 1588 is a superb example of the elegance, craftsmanship and understated sophistication that have long defined Patek Philippe.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Please note: The watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.

Condition

Watch is in overall very good condition. The 18K rose gold case shows surface scratches and light oxidation in places. The hallmarks on the case sides remain legible. The dial has some surface marks and shows degradation around the edge. There is some oxidation to the applied hour markers, while the hands remain clean. It is fitted with a brown leather strap and a gold-toned pin buckle. Comes with the Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives.

Our Perspective

Among vintage Patek Philippe dress watches, shaped references occupy a particularly special place, combining exceptional movement finishing with some of the manufacture's most creative case designs. The reference 1588 is one of the finest examples, offering timeless elegance, fascinating historical provenance and the reassurance of an accompanying Extract from the Archives—qualities that continue to make it a highly desirable addition to any serious collection.
