Introduction

Steeped in just about every merit and plaudit that a watchmaker could be steeped in, Patek Philippe’s timepieces are known for their beauty, craftsmanship and mechanical exuberance, all of which are on display in the Perpetual Calendar ref. 5139. Offered from 2008 to 2018, the 5139 is the ref. 5039’s replacement with more up-to-date mechanics and a stylistic update. Boasting modern aesthetic choices, the ref. 5139 comes with the same hobnail-boasting case construction as the ref. 5039 but with an updated dial whereby its inscriptions and indices are longer and thinner. Boasting the same straight lugs as its predecessor, the 38mm ref. 5139 pulls no punches with its Calatrava-style case combined with genuine horological merit as powered by Patek’s cal. 240Q self-winding movement. Of course, the ref. 5139 comes equipped with perpetual calendar, moon-phase indicator and dual time zone functions all of which combine to make it a wonderfully useful timepiece, as well as technically excellent. Combining the black dial with the opulent beauty of 18kt white gold, the 5139G that we have here has a gorgeous monochromatic appeal to it that few other watchmakers can perfect like Patek.

Condition

Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The white gold case shows light surface scratches from careful wear. The Clous de Paris bezel is in near-mint condition, while the winding crown and correctors are also in near-mint condition. The dial and hands are like new. It is fitted with a black leather strap and a white gold deployant clasp. Comes with the inner and outer boxes, Certificate of Origin, three booklets, document holder, solid case back, and setting tool.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

Everything that Patek collectors have come to cherish distilled within one timepiece, the ref. 5139G's complex movement, reserved black dial, impressive finishing, and immaculately executed hobnail texture construction combine to create the epitome of what Patek Philippe stands for to watch enthusiasts.
