Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 5270G-013 Chin Dial 18k WG

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Following in the footsteps of a whole host of iconic timepieces, the Patek Philippe ref. 5270 is the descendent of some of Patek's most historically significant models going as far back as 1941, with a chain of timepieces that begins with the ref. 1518, and goes through references like the 2499, the 3970, the 5970 and some others. Launched in 2011, the new Perpetual Calendar Chronograph was an immediate hit. Boasting a modern 41mm case with a flat stepped bezel and stepped art deco-inspired lugs, its construction is beautifully elegant, just like its heritage demands, while also appealing to contemporary tastes through its larger sizing. Featuring a seemingly busy dial, the ref. 5270 is quite legible with its twin day and date apertures at 12 o'clock, large pointer date subdial at 6 o'clock that also boasts a moon phase indicator, and small leap year indicator at 4:30 which completes its perpetual calendar functions. With symmetrical subdials at 3 and 9 o'clock, the ref. 5270's 30-minute chronograph and running seconds functions are perfectly placed in the empty space left to ensure its display is incredibly efficient. Powered by the manual-wind cal. CH 29-535 PS Q, the ref. 5270 is perfectly poised to exist as one of the most beautifully designed modern Patek perpetual calendar chronographs on the market. Marrying modern sensibilities such as its applied stick indices, contemporary sizing, impressive movement, and beautiful construction with its iconic heritage, the ref. 5270 hits every mark that could have been expected of it.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Featuring a silver "chin" dial, this example's 6 o'clock subdial cuts into its tachymeter scale. While a relatively divisive design choice, the chin dial was only produced for about 2 years, and so it is rather rare.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Following a whole lineage of stunningly well-designed perpetual calendar chronographs, the ref. 5270 is a beautiful timepiece with sharp sculptural lugs and a stepped concave bezel that combine to create a truly architectural timepiece that only barely begins to communicate the complexity of the engine underneath its hood.

Condition

Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The white gold case shows light signs of wear, with a couple of light scratches on the polished bezel and lugs, along with a couple of small marks visible on the case back, while the hallmarks on the backs of the lugs remain well defined. The "Chin" dial and hands remain like new. It is fitted with a black Patek alligator strap in near-mint condition and a white gold deployant clasp. Comes complete with inner and outer boxes, certificate of origin, additional solid case back, setting pin, and polishing cloth.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

Marking Patek’s move to fully in-house perpetual calendar chronographs, the cal. CH 29-535 PS Q within these ref. 5270's is a powerhouse movement, and this watch sits perfectly in Patek Philippe's perpetual calendar lineage.
