Introduction
While Patek’s best known dress watch might be the Calatrava, they have indeed produced a wide plethora of dress watches that speak to their traditionalistic view of horology and their classic aesthetic. Speaking to that very viewpoint is the rectangular ref. 2434J dress watch that we have here. Launched in the 1940s and produced into the 1950s, the ref. 2434 is inspired by the zeitgeist of its period with a rectangular 18kt yellow gold construction that boasts a variety of angles, lines and edges for Patek’s impressive craftsmanship to show through. This same craftsmanship is on display behind its gold snap caseback with its finely finished manual-wind movement. Boasting an elegantly aged silver dial with applied stick indices throughout, sophisticated sword-shaped hand and a sub-seconds dial at 6 o’clock, this timepiece is the embodiment of mid-century elegance that we have come to expect from a brand with Patek Philippe’s prestige.

THE DIAL
Featuring a bright silver dial with applied indices, this example's age is revealed in the gentle toning of its hour markers, which add color and life to its display.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Mid-century in its styling, the ref. 2434 was designed with a rectangular case that was quite large for the time, with a 41mm lug-to-lug measurement and 26mm width.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case shows surface scratches and marks, with some oxidation around the edge of the crystal. A warm patina has developed across much of the case. The crown side of the case retains a crisp hallmark. The vertically brushed silver dial is excellent with some oxidation to the applied hour markers, while the hands have some light marks. It is fitted with a black leather strap and a yellow gold Patek Philippe pin buckle. Comes with a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Elegant and confident in its design, this dress watch is supremely elegant and intensely unique, even by today's standards.
