Introduction
Launched in 1950 and produced until the 1960s, the Patek Philippe ref. 2554 is a wide-ranging collection of unique rectangular offerings that were largely ahead of their time. Powered by the manual-wind cal. 9-90 movement and rather large at 40mm tall and 28mm wide, the resulting rectangular watch was massive for its time. Presented with a champagne textured dial to match its textured 18kt yellow gold case, the ref. 2554/10 fits within the aesthetic styling of today, with textured cases being all the rage.

THE DIAL
Fitted with a textured champagne dial to match its 18kt yellow gold case in colour and texture, this example's display and onstruction combine to create a harmonious design.

THE CONSTRUCTION
A rather unique watch for the 1950s, this ref. 2554/10 features a textured midcase that gives its large profile an exceptionally unique aesthetic on the wrist, especially given the conservative design language of the time.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case shows surface scratches and small nicks to the front polished sections, while the bark-finish sides remain well defined with a still-legible hallmark on the crown side. The Calatrava cross–embossed winding crown remains in excellent condition. The case back shows light surface scratches along with some tarnishing around the edges. The bark-finish gold dial remains excellent, with light surface marks and clean hands. It is fitted with a black leather strap and an unsigned Wenger-style gold-plated pin buckle, both remaining in very good condition. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
A unique piece of mid-century watchmaking that was aesthetically and functionally ahead of its time, the ref. 2554/10 is an incredible piece of Patek's history as a luxury dress watchmaker.
