Introduction
Affectionately known as the “Top Hat,” the Patek Philippe ref. 1450 is perhaps one of the most uniquely-designed timepieces to ever leave the hallowed halls of Patek’s workshops. Launched in the 1940s and produced until the early 1960s, the ref. 1450 embraces the Art Deco movement with its rectangular case housing two large bands that extend past the past like the brim of a top hat, hence its nickname. Offered in 18kt yellow, pink, white gold and even platinum, the example we have here is a yellow gold example with a silver dial that boasts applied hour markers and beautiful gold hands. Known by Italian collectors as the ‘Cinesino’ due to its design being reminiscent of the East-Asian Pagoda tiered towers, the ref. 1450 is an eclectic timepiece that hailed from one of the most aesthetically conservative periods within horological history. A beautiful timepiece with a rich history, this example is presented in wonderful condition.

THE DIAL
Featuring an elegant silver dial to match its wonderfully rich design, the ref. 1450 boasts applied hour markers with a subtle running seconds subdial at 6 o'clock that further elevates its dress watch aesthetic.

THE CONSTRUCTION
While it hails from the 1940s, the ref. 1450's Top Hat-like design wears rather large on the wrist, and so its 20.5mm x 36.5mm profile indeed fills the wrist nicely.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case shows light surface wear, with oxidation visible along the case sides. The Helvetia hallmark is crisp and fully legible on the 3 o'clock case side. The crystal has some minor scratches and marks on the surface. Original indelible dial in excellent condition. The signature is raised and well defined. The indexes show oxidation and are a darker color than the case, and there is a "dot" visible on the dial surface near the 12 o'clock marker.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
A timepiece rich with character and poise, the ref. 1450 has become a cult classic with collectors for its unique design and notable deviation from Patek's typically conservative aesthetic.
