Introduction
Hailing from a small collection of two models that are both affectionately known as the “Top Hat,” the Patek Philippe ref. 574 features one of the most uniquely-designed contructions to ever leave the hallowed halls of Patek’s workshops. Launched in 1938 and replaced in 1940 by its larger counterpart the ref. 1450 that was then produced until the early 1960s, the ref. 574 embraces the Art Deco movement of the time with a rectangular case that houses two large bands which make up the equivalent of a bezel and that extend past the case like the brim of a top hat, hence its nickname. An incredibly rare watch that rarely makes it to market, the example we have here is a pink gold example with a stunning salmon dial that boasts applied hour markers and beautiful gold hands. Known by Italian collectors as the ‘Cinesino’ due to its design being reminiscent of the East-Asian Pagoda tiered towers, the ref. 574 is an eclectic timepiece that hailed from one of the most aesthetically conservative periods within horological history. A beautiful timepiece with a rich history, this example is presented in wonderful condition, with its 35m x 24mm case boasting sharp lines, a well-preserved dial free of blemishes and an entirely polished case that shines bright.

THE DIAL
Featuring an elegant salmon dial to match its wonderful 18kt pink gold case, the ref. 574 boasts applied hour markers with dot hour markers at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock and stick indices across the rest of the display.

THE CONSTRUCTION
While it hails from 1939, the ref. 574's Top Hat-like design wears rather large on the wrist, and so its 20.5mm x 34.5mm profile indeed fills the wrist nicely while still leaving its appealing vintage aesthetic.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
The watch ticks at time of cataloging, but it is unable to record a timing machine readout. The movement is in need of servicing.
Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Polished case shows only superficial marks, hallmarks on crown side of case are crisp and fully visible. The pink tone dial is excellent, showing slight oxidation on some of the indexes. Watch comes with an original PP buckle in rose gold.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
A timepiece that that is is rich with character and poise, the ref. 574 has become a cult classic with collectors for its unique design and notable deviation from Patek's typically conservative aesthetic.
