Introduction

Founded in 1874 by a young 19-year-old in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget was originally nothing but a means for Georges Piaget to earn some extra money as he worked on movements and watches during the winter. After decades of producing watches for other brands, it was not until 1943 that the watchmaker would begin to sign their own watches and develop as the famed watchmaker that they are today. From then on, Piaget began to experiment with ultra-thin watches and push both horological and design boundaries, which eventually led to the brand expanding into jewelry in 1959, perhaps the brand’s best-known avenue today. With their impeccable craftsmanship, audacious style, and dedication to the spectacular, Piaget’s timepieces and jewelry began to coalesce, resulting in timepieces much like the Altiplano Limelight ref. G0A34182 that we have here. Limited to 50 pieces and featuring an ultra-thin 18kt white gold 38mm case with a thin diamond-set bezel and a perfectly round profile, the Altiplano Limelight embodies everything that has made Piaget’s timepieces so timeless, a thoughtful design and a well-crafted construction. Ultra-thin, thanks to its manual-wind cal. 430P movement that stands only 2.1mm tall, the Altiplano builds upon Piaget’s impressive pedigree as a brand known for their thin timepieces. With a silver mother of pearl dial with an interesting branch-like motif on top, which is also revealed to be underneath the dial and rotated slightly when illuminated in the dark, the Altiplano is a thoughtfully designed watch that embodies Piaget’s elegance and radiates their refined aesthetic in abundance.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Featuring a branch-like design atop its mother-of-pearl dial, the ref. G0A34182's secret is that the same branch-like design is also underneath the dial, which can be seen when the dial is illuminated in the dark, as pictured separately.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Boasting a diamond-set 18kt white gold case that is ultra-thin, as Piaget is famed for, thanks to its manual-wind cal. 430P movement, the ref. G0A34182 is the ultimate dress watch for someone who wants something a little out there, but still rather subdued.

Condition

Watch is in overall excellent condition. The white gold case shows scratches to the polished case sides and lugs. The case back retains very well-defined engravings and hallmarks beneath a sticker, with some wear visible to the screw heads and light scratches around the apertures for the screws. The diamond-set bezel remains excellent, and the P-embossed winding crown is also excellent. The white dial with applied white gold pattern remains near mint, while the crystal retains the black PIAGET signature. It is fitted with a brown alligator strap and a white gold Piaget pin buckle showing light surface scratches.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

Luxuriously made and featuring an appealing ultra-thin case and movement in addition to a stunning mother-of-pearl branch-like dial, this is Piaget at their very best.
