Piaget Altiplano Ultra Thin 9710 Salmon Dial Platinum

Introduction

Founded in 1874 by a young 19-year-old in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget was originally nothing but a means for Georges Piaget to earn some extra money as he worked on movements and watches during the winter. After decades of producing watches for other brands, it was not until 1943 that the watchmaker would begin to sign their own watches and develop as the famed watchmaker that they are today. From then on, Piaget began to experiment with ultra-thin watches and push both horological and design boundaries, which eventually led to the brand expanding into jewelry in 1959, perhaps the brand’s best-known avenue today. With their impeccable craftsmanship, audacious style, and dedication to the spectacular, Piaget’s timepieces and jewelry began to coalesce, resulting in timepieces much like the Altiplano ref. 9710 that we have here. Featuring an ultra-thin platinum 34mm case with a thin bezel and a perfectly round profile, the Altiplano embodies everything that has made Piaget’s timepieces so timeless, a thoughtful design and a well-crafted construction. Ultra-thin, thanks to its manual-wind cal. 430P movement that stands only 2.1mm tall, the Altiplano builds upon Piaget’s impressive pedigree as a brand known for their thin timepieces. With a salmon sector dial featuring a central crosshair and simple indices, the Altiplano is a legibly laid-out watch that embodies Piaget’s elegance and radiates their refined aesthetic in abundance.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

The watch is in overall near-mint condition. The platinum case shows only light signs of wear. The display case back has very well-defined engravings and hallmarks around the edge. The salmon dial and black hands are near mint. It is fitted with a black Piaget alligator strap with a platinum pin buckle in excellent condition. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

Luxuriously made and featuring an appealing ultra-thin case and movement in addition to a stunning salmon crosshair dial, this is Piaget at their very best.
