Introduction
Founded in 1874 by a young 19-year-old in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget was originally nothing but a means for Georges Piaget to earn some extra money as he worked on movements and watches during the winter. After decades of producing watches for other brands, it was not until 1943 that the watchmaker would begin to sign their own watches and develop as the famed watchmaker that they are today. From then on, Piaget began to experiment with ultra-thin watches and push both horological and design boundaries, which eventually led to the brand expanding into jewelry in 1959, perhaps the brand’s best-known avenue today. With their impeccable craftsmanship, audacious style, and dedication to the spectacular, Piaget’s timepieces and jewelry began to coalesce, resulting in timepieces much like the ref. 612401 that we have here. Measuring 32mm wide and hosting an incredibly intricate 18k yellow gold construction, this cushion-shaped timepiece is a wonderful synthesis of Piaget’s distinctive exclusivity and rich horological aesthetic. Featuring an integrated 18kt yellow gold bracelet with a bark-like texture across its entire construction, this timepiece is extravagance at its very finest. Boasting two dials to tell the time, this timepiece is a further continuation of Piaget’s distinctive jeweler’s touch with its impeccable craftsmanship and overall beauty.

THE DIAL
While its champagne dial is relatively understated in comparison to its construction, the ref. 612401's dual-time display is wonderfully useful.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring an integrated brick bracelet with a bark-like texture that can also be found on its cushion-shaped case, this example's construction is wonderfully extravagant and exclusive.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case shows light surface scratches and retains a very well-defined engraved finish to the bezel. The case back displays surface scratches while retaining fully legible hallmarks and stamps. The dial remains excellent, with some light spotting visible on the black dial surface. There is some oxidation visible on the hands. It is fitted with a yellow gold bracelet that remains excellent, with a well-defined engraved finish matching that of the bezel. The bracelet is fitted with 33 links and fits approximately a 7¼” wrist.
Please note: The watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor with both movements and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
Showcasing how vibrant design and incredible craftsmanship can combine to create a wonderfully unique watch, this timepiece is a great reminder of how Piaget has been able to grow into the watchmaker and jeweler it has today in what is a relatively short period of time, compared to plenty of others in the industry at least.
