Introduction
Founded in 1874 by a young 19-year-old in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget was originally nothing but a means for Georges Piaget to earn some extra money as he worked on movements and watches during the winter. After decades of producing watches for other brands, it was not until 1943 that the watchmaker would begin to sign their own watches and develop as the famed watchmaker that they are today. From then on, Piaget began to experiment with ultra-thin watches and push both horological and design boundaries, which eventually led to the brand expanding into jewelry in 1959, perhaps the brand’s best-known avenue today. With their impeccable craftsmanship, audacious style, and dedication to the spectacular, Piaget’s timepieces and jewelry began to coalesce, resulting in timepieces much like the Gouverneur ref. 15959 that we have here. Featuring an 18kt yellow gold 33.5mm case with a stepped bezel and a perfectly round profile, the Gouverneur embodies everything that has made Piaget’s timepieces so timeless, a thoughtful design and a well-crafted construction. Standing just 8mm thick, which is very impressive for an automatic triple calendar, the Gouverneur builds upon Piaget’s impressive pedigree as a brand known for their thin timepieces. With a white dial featuring a trioe of subdials, the Gouverneur is a legibly laid-out watch that embodies Piaget’s elegance and radiates their refined aesthetic in abundance.

THE DIAL
Featuring a white dial with gold trim, an engraved guilloche center, and a trio of subdials for the three functions of its triple calendar, the day, date, and month, the Gouverneur's display boasts an abundance of elegance.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Intensely elegant like its dial, the Gouverneur's 33.5mm yellow gold case features a stepped bezel that is directly inspired by the mid-century triple-calendar timepieces that inspired it.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case has some surface scratches but remains well defined. The case back features crisp engravings and a clearly visible hallmark, with some light wear to the screw heads. The dial is excellent, showing only a few minor surface marks, and the gold center hands are very clean. The black calendar hands exhibit some very light oxidation. The watch is fitted with a brown leather strap and a Piaget-signed yellow gold buckle, both in excellent condition. It comes complete with boxes, warranty card, and hangtag. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
With classical watchmaking baked into every piece of its design, the Gouverneur celebrates everything that made mid-century watchmaking so great.
