Introduction
Founded in 1874 by a young 19-year-old in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget was originally nothing but a means for Georges Piaget to earn some extra money as he worked on movements and watches during the winter. After decades of producing watches for other brands, it was not until 1943 that the watchmaker would begin to sign their own watches and develop as the famed watchmaker that they are today. From then on, Piaget began to experiment with ultra-thin watches and push both horological and design boundaries, which eventually led to the brand expanding into jewelry in 1959, perhaps the brand’s best-known avenue today. With their impeccable craftsmanship, audacious style, and dedication to the spectacular, Piaget’s timepieces and jewelry began to coalesce, resulting in timepieces much like the example that we have here, the ref. 80131. Featuring an 18kt white gold case and intricate 18kt white bracelet with a variety of distinct textures, this example celebrates Piaget’s heritage as a jeweller. Boasting a mother of pearl dial with diamond-set hour markers at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, this timepiece embodies opulence in its totality.

THE DIAL
Made from mother of pearl, this example's dial uses diamonds to act as its quarter-hour markers, which, thanks to their white color, creates a monochromatic aesthetic.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Boasting an 18kt white gold case and bracelet that are both intricately constructed so as to create a braided rope-like effect, this timepiece showcases Piaget's talents as a jeweler and their identity as a powerhouse of design.

THE PROFILE
Powered by a quartz movement, this timepiece features a slim profile that allows the cohesiveness of its design to shine.
Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The white gold case is well defined, with some scratches and light marks on the bezel and polished case sides. The case back has a very well-preserved vertical brushed finish with crisp engravings and hallmarks. The white dial has diamond quarters and is in excellent condition, as are the clean white gold hands. The integrated white gold bracelet is in excellent condition with sharp detailing. It has light play between the links and features a Piaget-signed clasp. The bracelet currently fits a 7 1/4" wrist and has 30 links, 6 of which are removable.
Our Perspective
An exhibition of Piaget's talents as a design powerhouse and their skill as an artisanal maison famed for their craftsmanship, this timepiece is Piaget at their very best.
