Introduction

Founded in 1874 by a young 19-year-old in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget was originally nothing but a means for Georges Piaget to earn some extra money as he worked on movements and watches during the winter. After decades of producing watches for other brands, it was not until 1943 that the watchmaker would begin to sign their own watches and develop as the famed watchmaker that they are today. From then on, Piaget began to experiment with ultra-thin watches and push both horological and design boundaries, which eventually led to the brand expanding into jewelry in 1959, perhaps the brand’s best-known avenue today. With their impeccable craftsmanship, audacious style, and dedication to the spectacular, Piaget’s timepieces and jewelry began to coalesce, resulting in timepieces much like the ref. 9294 that we have here. Measuring 23mm wide and 30mm tall and hosting an incredibly intricate 18k white gold construction, this rectangular timepiece is a wonderful synthesis of Piaget’s distinctive exclusivity and rich horological aesthetic. Featuring an 18kt white gold brick bracelet attached to its Cartier Tank-like case, this timepiece is extravagance at its very finest. Boasting a clous de Paris texture atop its case’s bezel and throughout its bracelet and a stunning blue lapis lazuli dial, this timepiece is a further continuation of Piaget’s distinctive jeweler’s touch with its impeccable craftsmanship and overall beauty.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Introducing some color to the ref. 9294's aesthetic, this example features a stunning lapis lazuli stone dial that takes on an electric shade of blue, with silver Roman numerals to match its construction material.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

A lesson in classy extravagance, the ref. 9294 showcases that even an 18kt white gold watch with a clous de Paris case and brick bracelet and bright blue stone dial can be surprisingly reserved and elegant.

Condition

The watch is in overall excellent condition. The white gold case has a very well-defined clous de Paris finish on the front and sides, with some surface scratches and light signs of wear. The case back has deep engravings and a well-defined hallmark. The blue lapis dial is pristine, complemented by clean white gold hands. The integrated white gold bracelet has a well-preserved clous de Paris finish with light surface marks and negligible play between the links. The clasp features a well-defined Piaget "P" emblem. The bracelet has 39 links and fits an approximately 6 3/4" wrist. Please note that the watch ticks at the time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.

Our Perspective

Showcasing how vibrant design and incredible craftsmanship can combine to create a wonderfully unique watch, this timepiece is a great reminder of how Piaget has been able to grow into the watchmaker and jeweler it has today in what is a relatively short period of time, compared to plenty of others in the industry at least.
