Introduction
Founded in 1874 by a young 19-year-old in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget was originally nothing but a means for Georges Piaget to earn some extra money as he worked on movements and watches during the winter. After decades of producing watches for other brands, it was not until 1943 that the watchmaker would begin to sign their own watches and develop as the famed watchmaker that they are today. From then on, Piaget began to experiment with ultra-thin watches and push both horological and design boundaries, which eventually led to the brand expanding into jewelry in 1959, perhaps the brand’s best-known avenue today. With their impeccable craftsmanship, audacious style, and dedication to the spectacular, Piaget’s timepieces and jewelry began to coalesce, resulting in timepieces much like the ref. 9865 that we have here. Measuring 26mm wide and 32mm tall and hosting an incredibly intricate 18kt yellow gold construction, this timepiece is a wonderful synthesis of Piaget’s distinctive exclusivity and rich horological aesthetic. Boasting a braided rope-like bezel atop its case and an understated black onyx stone dial, this timepiece is a further continuation of Piaget’s distinctive jeweler’s touch with its impeccable craftsmanship and overall beauty.

THE DIAL
Working with the 18kt yellow gold case that it is set within, the ref. 9865's black onyx dial produces a monochromatic aesthetic that is perfectly complemented by its surrounding bezel. As a delaminating dial, this example's onyx stone has developed some golden spotting that give it a rather unique aesthetic.

THE CONSTRUCTION
A lesson in classy extravagance, the ref. 9865's 18kt yellow gold case features a twisted rope-like bezel that wonderfully complements its unique black onyx stone dial.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall very good condition. The yellow gold case remains well defined, with light scratches and marks consistent with a watch of this vintage. The case back retains its vertical brushed finish and features crisp engravings and a clear hallmark. The black onyx dial shows some delamination in places, and the PIAGET signature has faded over time. The watch is fitted with a black alligator strap and a Piaget-signed yellow gold buckle, both in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Showcasing how vibrant design and incredible craftsmanship can combine to create a wonderfully unique watch, this timepiece is a great reminder of how Piaget has been able to grow into the watchmaker and jeweler it has today in what is a relatively short period of time, compared to plenty of others in the industry at least.
