Introduction

Founded in 1874 by a young 19-year-old in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget was originally nothing but a means for Georges Piaget to earn some extra money as he worked on movements and watches during the winter. After decades of producing watches for other brands, it was not until 1943 that the watchmaker would begin to sign their own watches and develop as the famed watchmaker that they are today. From then on, Piaget began to experiment with ultra-thin watches and push both horological and design boundaries, which eventually led to the brand expanding into jewelry in 1959, perhaps the brand’s best-known avenue today. With their impeccable craftsmanship, audacious style, and dedication to the spectacular, Piaget’s timepieces and jewelry began to coalesce, resulting in timepieces much like the ref. 9826D2 that we have here. Measuring 30mm wide and 24mm tall and hosting an incredibly intricate 18k white gold construction and diamond-set case, this timepiece is a wonderful synthesis of Piaget’s distinctive exclusivity and rich horological aesthetic. Featuring an 18kt white gold bracelet attached to its oval-shaped case, this timepiece is extravagance at its very finest. Boasting a wonderfully woven design aross its bracelet and a stunning jet-black onyx dial, this timepiece is a further continuation of Piaget’s distinctive jeweler’s touch with its impeccable craftsmanship and overall beauty.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Working with the 18kt white gold case that it is set within, the ref. 9826's black onyx dial produces a monochromatic aesthetic that is perfectly complemented by the bright diamonds that it uses for its quarter-hour markers, and that surround its bezel.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

A lesson in classy extravagance, the ref. 9826D2 showcases that even a watch with a textured precious metal construction and stone dial can be surprisingly reserved and elegant.

Condition

The white gold case remains in excellent condition, with a few surface scratches visible on the sides and case back. The engravings and hallmark on the case back are still crisp. The diamond-set bezel is in excellent condition. The black onyx dial, featuring diamond-set quarters, is in excellent condition, with a couple of small marks but no cracks or fissures. The white gold integrated mesh bracelet fits an approximately 6 1/2" wrist. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.

Our Perspective

Showcasing how vibrant design and incredible craftsmanship can combine to create a wonderfully unique watch, this timepiece is a great reminder of how Piaget has been able to grow into the watchmaker and jeweler it has today in what is a relatively short period of time, compared to plenty of others in the industry at least.
