Introduction

Founded in 1874 by a young 19-year-old in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget was originally nothing but a means for Georges Piaget to earn some extra money as he worked on movements and watches during the winter. After decades of producing watches for other brands, it was not until 1943 that the watchmaker would begin to sign their own watches and develop as the famed watchmaker that they are today. From then on, Piaget began to experiment with ultra-thin watches and push both horological and design boundaries, which eventually led to the brand expanding into jewelry in 1959, perhaps the brand’s best-known avenue today. With their impeccable craftsmanship, audacious style, and dedication to the spectacular, Piaget’s timepieces and jewelry began to coalesce, resulting in timepieces much like the ref. 9200 that we have here. Measuring 25mm in diameter and hosting an incredibly intricate 18kt white gold construction, this timepiece is a wonderful synthesis of Piaget’s distinctive exclusivity and rich horological aesthetic. Featuring a clous de Paris engraved hobnail texture bezel that also features a lapis lazuli stone bezel insert, this example’s square-shaped 25mm case, is extravagance at its very finest. Matching its bezel, this ref. 9200 also features a bright blue lapis lazuli dial that is a further continuation of Piaget’s distinctive jeweler’s touch with its impeccable gem-setting craftsmanship and overall beauty.

Condition

The watch is in overall excellent condition. The white gold case is still very well defined, with some scratches and light nicks as expected with a watch of this age. The case back is very well preserved, with deep engravings and a hallmark, and some wear to the screw heads. The watch has an inner bezel in white gold with a hobnail finish that is very clean and well defined. There is an outer bezel of lapis squares that is in excellent condition, with no cracks. The Piaget-signed lapis dial is in excellent condition with no cracks and very clean white gold hands. The watch is fitted with a black leather strap with a generic steel pin buckle in excellent condition.

Our Perspective

Showcasing how elegant design and incredible craftsmanship can combine to create a wonderfully unique watch, this ref. 9200 is a great reminder of how Piaget has been able to grow into the watchmaker and jeweler it has today in what is a relatively short period of time, respective of others in the industry.
