Having honed his craft as a watchmaker with Patek Philippe, Franck Muller and his own eponymous watchmaking business, Pierre Kunz’ timepieces embody his personal style and the aesthetic influences of the watchmakers he has worked for over his long career. As such, his timepieces are carefully crafted examples of horology that take shape in the most wonderful of ways with fabulous craftsmanship, as is clearly demonstrated with this Spirit of Challenge that we have here. Offered as a 37mm 18kt white gold timepiece, this example boasts an industrial construction from the front with angular satin-finished lugs and a matching satin-finished bezel that overhangs a coin edge midcase that gives the timepiece a classical flair, much like what we have come to expect from where Pierre completed his watchmaking apprenticeship. Building off of that sense of inspiration, Franck Muller’s influence on Pierre clearly shows itself through the Spirit of Challenge’s colorful blue and silver dial with its retrograde 30-second display, pointer date and hour and minute subdial. An interesting timepiece that you don’t see every day, this Spirit of Challenge showcases the breadth and width of watchmaking’s intriguing level design and detail in its own unique and wonderful manner.
