Ressence has spent much of its existence challenging one of the most established conventions in watchmaking: that time should be indicated by hands rotating above a stationary dial. The Type 1 instead uses the patented Ressence Orbital Convex System, or ROCS, in which the entire display is continuously moving. Hours, seconds and the day of the week are shown on eccentric satellites that orbit with the central minutes indication, creating a constantly changing arrangement while remaining remarkably intuitive to read. The Type 1 Squared takes this unmistakably Ressence display and places it within a softer, more architectural cushion-shaped case.

This White version provides an especially clean expression of the concept, pairing a Grade 5 titanium case with a convex white German silver dial and engraved indications filled with Super-LumiNova. There is no conventional crown to interrupt the case profile; winding and setting are instead performed through the case back. Beneath the display is the ROCS 1.3 module, comprising 107 components and driven by the minute axle of a customised automatic 2892 base calibre. At 41.5mm across and only 11mm thick, the Type 1 Squared combines genuinely unconventional mechanics with surprisingly restrained proportions.
