Introduction
Founded in 2010, Ressence has become one of the most visually unique and technically innovative independent watchmakers of the last decade. As part of this drive to create visually novel timepieces, Ressence fit their timepieces with one of the most unique displays in all of watchmaking, a collection of small subdial satellites that rotate around the display as time passes, thus resulting in a watch whose display is constantly changing. Designing watches the likes of which have never been seen before, Ressence’s unique approach to watchmaking has created a design language that is traceable only to them. Powered by a system called the ‘Ressence Orbital Convex System’ that comprises of 27 gears and 40 jewels with painted engraved indications, the Type 5 is a true feat of craftsmanship and engineering that truly seems to have come from a sci-fi movie rather than an artisanal Swiss watchmaker. Made of titanium and featuring a black dial, as a result of the oil that fills the watch, this example is a beautifully monochromatic timepiece that is understated in design but stunning in execution. Wound and set via its caseback and thus lacking a winding crown, the Type 5 wears incredibly neat on the wrist and thanks to its welded-style lugs and perfectly round shape, it is a watch that wears much smaller than its 42mm diameter might have you first believe.

THE DIAL
Perhaps one of Ressence's most unique design aspects is that their dials feature subdial satellites that rotate around the display as time passes, giving them a new look over the course of the day. Additionally, the Type 5's dial is filled with oil so that its dials appear right on the surface of its domed crystal.
THE CROWN
In accordance with its crown-less design, the Type 5B has to be wound and set using its caseback. This also results in a symmetrical timepiece that is a delight to wear.
