Introduction
Since its founding by Benoît Mintiens in 2010, Ressence has pursued one of the most distinctive approaches to displaying time in contemporary independent watchmaking. Rather than conventional hands mounted concentrically to a fixed dial, its watches use the Ressence Orbital Convex System, or ROCS, in which the indications themselves continually orbit across the surface of the watch. The result is immediately recognisable as Ressence, yet the Type 8 takes this concept in an unusually pure direction, reducing the display to nothing more than hours and minutes.
Introduced in 2022, the Type 8 is the most minimal expression of the Ressence concept. Its cobalt blue display uses a rotating hour satellite and minute indication driven by the ROCS 8 module, while winding and setting are performed through the case back, eliminating the need for a conventional crown. The 42.9mm case is fashioned from lightweight Grade 5 titanium and dispenses with traditional lugs, its broad circular form recalling the radical disco volante watches of the mid-20th century. At just 11mm thick and weighing remarkably little, the Type 8 turns what appears to be a substantial watch into something unexpectedly light and discreet on the wrist.

THE DIAL
The Type 8 strips Ressence's orbital display back to its essentials. Against the cobalt blue surface, a satellite indicates the hours while the minute indication travels continuously around the dial. There is no conventional dial-and-hands hierarchy; instead, the entire display is in motion, creating an unusually intuitive representation of passing time.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The 42.9mm Grade 5 titanium case has neither conventional lugs nor a crown, creating the smooth pebble-like profile that has become central to Ressence's design language. Winding and setting are instead controlled through the case back. Its circular architecture and 11mm thickness allow the Type 8 to sit considerably more discreetly on the wrist than its diameter might suggest.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The polished titanium case shows surface scratches throughout, with some scuffs to the edges. The case back shows some light surface marks. The dial and hands are like new. It is fitted with a new Delugs strap, with the buckle still in its protective plastic. Comes with box, warranty, and booklet. Please note that the box shows signs of mildew.
Our Perspective
The Type 8 is compelling precisely because Ressence chose to remove rather than add. By reducing its orbital system to hours and minutes, the mechanics become almost secondary to the experience of reading the watch. The cobalt blue display, featherweight titanium construction and crownless case make this one of the purest expressions of Benoît Mintiens' unconventional approach to mechanical watchmaking.
