Introduction
Founded by Roland Murphy in 1992, the independent watchmaker’s eponymous brand has been known as “America’s Premier Watchmaker” for over 30 years now, and for good reason. With history in clockmaking and known for his creation of bespoke timepieces, Roland Murphy has come to exist at the zenith of US watchmaking, and it is examples like the ref. 801-E that we have here that showcases why that is the case. Boasting an understated 42mm stainless steel construction with a stepped bezel, the ref. 801-E is not a loud watch on the wrist. Instead, its craftsmanship does the talking, which is clearly on show through its in-house manual-wind cal. 801 movement that exhibits stunning finishing underneath its exhibition caseback and its custom dial. Boasting a cross-hatched chequered pattern within a concentric ring housing its applied Breguet numerals to match its blued-steel Breguet hands that feature some unique detailing instead of the traditional circular embellishments, this example's grey dial proudly displays the high level of thought and care that has gone into its creation. In its essence, this timepiece is a testament to RGM's ability to blend traditional watchmaking techniques with modern design sensibilities, creating a watch that is both timeless and contemporary.

THE DIAL
Boasting a cross-hatched chequered pattern within a concentric ring housing, it's applied, a running seconds subdial, and Breguet numerals to match its blued-steel Breguet hands that feature some unique detailing instead of the traditional circular embellishments; this example's grey dial proudly displays the high level of thought and care that has gone into its creation.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Boasting an understated 42mm stainless steel case with a stepped bezel and onion-style crown, the ref. 801-E's construction aids in showcasing the work involved in creating its movement and dial rather than distracting the wearer through an overly stylized design.

Our Perspective
Incredibly well-crafted and appreciably unique as a piece from RGM's famous Lancaster County-based workshop, this ref. 801-E proves that America's watches deserve their spot amongst the traditional big names.
