Introduction
Produced during the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Rodania Bullhead is one of a family of chronographs manufactured by the renowned Swiss movement specialist Lemania and supplied to a number of prestigious brands. Known for producing some of the finest and most robust chronograph movements of the twentieth century, Lemania supplied calibres to companies including Omega, Patek Philippe and Tissot, while also manufacturing complete watches under its own name. Today, these Lemania-built chronographs have become increasingly appreciated for their mechanical pedigree and distinctive period design.
The Bullhead 9601 shares its architecture with the celebrated Omega Bullhead, featuring the same unconventional crown-and-pusher arrangement at the top of the case that inspired the model's nickname. Originally conceived with motorsport enthusiasts in mind, this unique layout was intended to improve chronograph operation while driving. Combined with a bold two-tone dial, tachymeter scale and manually wound Lemania chronograph movement, the Rodania Bullhead captures the optimism and innovation that defined sports watch design during the golden era of the mechanical chronograph.

THE DIAL
The bold black dial is accented by a contrasting silver centre stripe, colourful chronograph registers and a prominent central chronograph seconds hand. An outer tachymeter scale calibrated to 1,000 units per hour reinforces the watch's motorsport-inspired character.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The distinctive Bullhead case positions the crown and chronograph pushers at the top of the watch, creating one of the most recognisable chronograph designs of the era. Its asymmetrical profile and ergonomic layout remain as striking today as when first introduced.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The steel case shows light signs of very careful wear. The case back retains well-defined engravings. The dial has slight signs of degradation around the edge of the upper subdial. There is some lume missing from the hour and minute hands. It is fitted with a Rodania green leather rally-style strap and a steel pin buckle. Comes with the box and blank warranty booklet.
Our Perspective
Sharing its DNA with the iconic Omega Bullhead while remaining considerably less well known, the Rodania ref. 9601 represents one of vintage chronograph collecting's hidden gems. Combining genuine Lemania engineering, an unmistakable seventies design and a fascinating place in the history of motorsport-inspired chronographs, it offers tremendous character and exceptional value for collectors seeking something beyond the mainstream.
